The whole fiasco with Kate Middleton has taught me that, wow, as a human species, we really can rally together for a cause. The level of investigation and emotional investment that the situation collected was astounding. I know this with war, elections, and other political stuff. However, I have been removed from current world events because I don’t watch the news and feel like a victim to the powers that be. Humans can create collective change; maybe we can stop classic racism, greed, and corruption… I just don’t feel hopeful.

Somehow, this whole Kate Middleton thing got me swept up. I usually don’t. But I obsessively read and listened to different theories of where she went and what happened. I mean hours and days probably spent consuming tarot readers, astrology, and physic readers give their insights into the situation.
Part of the lore was that all their readings were not optimistic and concluded that something nefarious was afoot. I read somewhere that more articles were written about KM in the US than about presidential elections in the US. That’s wild!
There was mass hysteria about uncovering the secrets the palace could be hiding and think tanks on AI and photo manipulations.
Now that it has calmed down because of the latest video released, I am feeling empty after it all. All that emotional investment was a waste of time and energy. I learned that I should only put energy into the things I have the power to change in my life.

Yes, the royal family falling into disarray or scandal could affect me as a US citizen. I think the UK/USA money is tightly bound. However, in the day-to-day aspects of my life, these people have no barrens in my life. All those hours I could have spent reading a good book, writing a good book, connecting with my partner, cooking a good meal, going for evening walks, or deepening my spiritual practice were wasted.
And that is the worst feeling: investing in energy that gives you nothing in return.
So, as I usher in this new month, I will focus on my life and my limited degrees of influence and not use social media to distract myself!
The media and technology will continue to blur the lines between what is real and what is not. It’s up to me to decide what I consume and allow into my sense of vision.
